Alfredo Ramirez III serves as the Chief Safety and Emergency Response Officer of Miami-Dade County, the largest county in the State of Florida and the eighth largest in the United States under Mayor Daniella Levine-Cava's administration.

Chief Safety and Emergency Officer Ramirez III has dedicated the past 27- plus years to the law enforcement profession. He joined the Miami-Dade Police Department in 1995 and was promoted, through all civil service ranks, to Department Director in January 2020.

As the Miami-Dade Police Department Director, he made it known that his top priorities are and will continue to be keeping the community and his officers safe; addressing gun violence arduously; and enhancing community relations while emphasizing officer wellness. Through perseverance and constant leadership, he led the Department with excellent results in gun violence prevention and homicide reduction through the implementation of initiatives such as Operation Community Shield and the revitalization of the Turn Around Police (TAP) Academy, under the Mayor’s Peace and Prosperity Plan. In addition, through extensive planning, dedication to his profession, and his love for the community he serves, he successfully steered the Department on several major events such as Champlain South Condominium Collapse at Surfside, COVID-19 pandemic, and the Super Bowl LIV.

As Interim Chief, Alfredo Ramirez uses his extensive knowledge of law enforcement, lifelong experiences, and managerial style “hands-on” leadership approach to provide direct supervision to the Miami Dade Police Department, Miami Dade Fire Rescue, and the Miami Dade Medical Examiner,

He graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. He completed the Major Cities Chiefs Association's Police Executive Leadership Program and the Florida International University's Chapmanville Leadership Development Program. He is a member of the Major Cities Chiefs Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Police Executive Research Forum, Major County Sheriffs Association, Florida Police Chiefs Association, Dade-Miami Criminal Justice Council, Eleventh Judicial Circuit Advisory Board, and Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police. Chief Ramirez is also the President of the Police Officer Assistance Trust (POAT) and is a proud recent graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Executive Institute (NEI) Session 44.
